We're delighted to welcome Omar, our latest software development intern to our growing team here at Newicon. Fresh from a fruitful three-month stint at AER Studios, Omar brings with him a blend of unwavering determination and a warm, positive attitude. Discover more about the journey that led Omar to this career path, and his hopes and aspirations for the future.
My journey started in London, where I pursued a degree in pharmacology. However, I soon realised that it wasn't the right fit for me. It was actually my brother-in-law, who' s a full-stack developer, who sparked my interest in software development. I began my foray into this field through online research and self-guided learning. It was a challenging road without proper mentorship.
But then, my luck took a turn for the better when I discovered Bristol Creative Industry (BCI), a non-profit organisation. They offered me an internship opportunity, and my first three months were at AER Studios. That is where I got my hands on various aspects of software development and learned from cross-functional teams.
Now, I've started a new chapter at NewIcon, where I've been for the past three weeks. It's been an incredibly welcoming and friendly environment, and I'm excited to be part of the team.
Imagine you have a toy robot, and you want it to do different things like dance or talk. My job is like telling the robot how to do those things by giving it special instructions, but instead of a robot, I'm telling computers what to do.
I'm really excited about diving into new projects and learning even more about software development. I want to create cool things like websites and apps that people can use and enjoy.
In the next ten years, I think we'll see some incredible stuff. Imagine computers getting super smart and helping us with almost everything. We might even have robots doing more everyday tasks, like cooking or cleaning.
Outside of work, I love watching documentaries about nature and animals. I'm also really into staying fit and exercising in my free time.
I can't pick just one favourite but I love movies like "Never Back Down" and TV shows like "Breaking Bad" and "Prison Break."
"To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. It is a classic novel with powerful themes and important messages. It's a book that addresses important issues like racial injustice and moral growth. It's definitely a book that many people should read to gain valuable insights and perspectives.
