Meet Astra, our new CMO

If you've been reading these new starter blogs you'll be aware that we've grown a lot as a company over the past couple of years, bringing some fantastic new team members on board. And here's the thing — we want to grow even more! And on top of that, as a business we're starting to focus on certain sectors and verticals such as IoT, energy, medtech and aerospace.

To help us achieve this we've decided to grow the marketing team with an experienced new CMO (who has already hit the ground running and started the task of taking our marketing to the next level). 

That CMO is Astra Baker, and here's a little bit about her...

What’s your working background, and how did you come to work for Newicon? 

I have spent the last 15 years working in marketing and business development for an array of technology focussed organisations. The past 5 years have been incredible, I gained extensive experience working for a start-up company alongside the founders to build a global brand presence. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and working with some truly inspiring people. This year felt like the right time to take on a new challenge and that’s when I was introduced to Newicon and their exciting business growth plans, I simply couldn’t resist!

Describe your job to a six-year-old

My team of extremely talented professionals and I try to ensure that everyone in the world that should know about the amazing work my company does, knows about us and wants to come and talk to us about it!

What are you looking forward to working on the most?

Our company rebrand because it is going to be out of this world! The design team here is second to none, their ideas and talent brings our office to life and makes it a really exciting and collaborative place to work each day. This is closely followed by implementing our 2023 marketing strategy and all the exciting elements that come with it… So watch this space.

What tech breakthroughs do you think we’ll be seeing in the next ten years? 

It’s happening already but driverless cars and buses taking to the main roads. It scares me somewhat but I reckon it will happen very soon.

What do you like doing outside of work, any unusual hobbies?

I wouldn’t say I have any unusual hobbies but for me keeping fit and healthy is really important so you’ll often find me in the gym when I’m not working or spending time with my family. 

Favourite film/TV show/podcast?

It has to be Top Gun and Top Gun 2. At Christmas time I can’t pass through the festive season without watching Elf.

What book should everyone read?

The Harry Potter books, the evenings spent reading these with my children were absolutely magical (I also read them on my gap year 16 years earlier). I plan to read the books again.

At Newicon we listen to a lot of music and make far too many playlists. What are your go-to songs and/or artists?

If I share my music taste I don’t think I’ll be allowed into the office anymore :-)
