New Icon’s nomination for two Bristol Life Awards highlights a year of strategic growth, innovation in AI and technology, strengthened client relationships, increased sales, impactful community initiatives, and a commitment to driving meaningful change in both business and society.
We’ve got some exciting news—New Icon has been nominated for not one, but two Bristol Life Awards! We’re finalists in the Technology and Business Services categories, standing alongside some of the most innovative and impactful businesses in Bristol. The Bristol Life Awards are a big deal, celebrating excellence across industries through a fiercely competitive selection process. Winning one of these is a serious badge of honour, and just making it to the finals is a moment worth celebrating.
Looking back on 2024, it’s been a year of bold decisions and big wins. We started the year with financial losses (hardly the dream scenario!) but instead of playing it safe, we doubled down on a clear vision. We honed our focus on Space, Energy, FinTech, and MedTech, setting ambitious financial targets: £1.4 million turnover, 80% client retention, and project delivery within 80% of time and budget expectations.
AI has become a game-changer for us. By integrating AI-driven processes, we refined how we manage resources, schedule projects, and deliver services. These improvements didn’t just make us more efficient - they strengthened relationships with our clients, allowing us to consistently deliver high-value, transparent, and user-focused solutions.
Great work only matters if people know about it, so we took a long, hard look at our sales approach.
The result?
A 196% increase in leads from Q1 to Q4 2024. By making sales a true team effort through bringing in the right experts at the right time; we built trust and confidence with potential clients. This led to bigger commitments, with new clients signing six-figure contracts for the first time.
Retention is just as important as growth, and our 80% client retention rate proves that our approach is working. Our focus on collaboration and transparency has not only kept our clients engaged but also fueled our financial success, with turnover jumping from £1 million in 2023 to £1.45 million in 2024.
Business isn’t just about the bottom line; it’s about people. This year, we made it a priority to give back to the Bristol community. Nearly half of our team joined forces with FareShare Southwest, helping distribute food to those in need. We also partnered with North Bristol & South Glos Foodbank during the festive season, donating food and resources to families struggling over the holidays.
Internally, we’ve invested in our team’s well-being by launching an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), offering confidential support for mental health, counselling, and professional guidance. A happy, supported team is the foundation of everything we do.
A key highlight of our work this year has been our contribution to the development of EarSwitch™, a groundbreaking device that enables individuals with severe neurological impairments to communicate using voluntary movements of the tensor tympani muscle. Our team integrated advanced software into the device, developed a data management system for Bath University’s research team, and enhanced its functionality with USB and Bluetooth connectivity. This project exemplifies our commitment to transforming innovative research into life-changing assistive technology.
